"GROWING IN THE GARDEN" CLASSES

MASTER GARDENER CLASS (Winter 2008)
Every Wednesday from 5:30-8:30pm starting March 5th for 12 consecutive weeks
The first six months of the year are full of Volunteer Opportunities and many of the Winter-students get their volunteer time in and are Certified Master Gardeners by the end of the class.  Space becomes limited for the MGV Classes so call us early. Each of the twelve classes is taught by regional experts—so a lot of the information is from experience as well as books!
Cost:$275.00
Location: LAS Horticulture Training Center, 103 Limit St., Battle Creek, MI (just 1.5 miles west of downtown).

TREE PRUNING
*Rescheduled for Thursday, April 3rd (6pm-8pm)
Afraid to prune trees and shrubs at home but know it needs to be done?  Come and learn with the best!  Brett Myers, our resident woody plants guru is a certified Arborist who will show you hands on techniques for pruning some of the trees in the Arboretum and Children’s Garden. 
Cost: $25.00

SPRING GARDEN MAINTENANCE BASICS
Saturday, March 29  (10am-noon)
Join Dinah for a morning of welcoming spring back to the Children's Garden.  Discover easy ways to get through the spring maintenance and why it is necessary in the garden.  Dress for the weather and bring friends, the more the merrier.
Cost:  $5 donation
MGV ed:  2 hours

SEED STARTING AT HOME
Saturday, April 5 (10am-1pm)
.Have you tried starting seeds at home before with limited success?  Spend a morning with Horticulturist, Stacey Rocklin, discovering how seeds germinate and how to make it happen at home for your summer garden.  We'll discuss vegetables, annuals and perennials their timing for beginning and planting as well as how to maintain seedlings as they grow.  Bring in your tomato, pepper and eggplant seeds as well as a few annuals or perennial seeds to start during class.

GARDENING WITH ARTHRITIS
Wednesday, April 9 (6pm to 8pm)
.If arthritis keeps you from enjoying working in the garden, then come to this informative and fun session with Dinah Hoke, Assistant Horticulturist at Leila Arboretum.  Learn which tools are helpful for making chores easier and other valuable ways to cope with arthritis while keeping up on garden tasks.
Cost: $25
